Vinings School of Art Spanish Classes

THE PROGRAM

The Vinings School of Art has Language Arts classes in Spanish.. We offer both Beginning level
classes and classes for students that already “Know Some Spanish.” We have three Spanish
instructors, who are all university educated & native speakers of Spanish. Each class is one hour in
duration. The classes run on a monthly schedule.

BEGINNING SPANISH CURRICULUM

The children will practice several activities in Spanish. They will cover over 150 essential words and
phrases including saying their name and age, counting, words for family members, items of clothing,
groceries, and items in the house. They will learn words and sentences to describe activities in
Spanish such as shopping, going to school, going to a birthday party, in the restaurant, at the zoo, in
the park, at the beach, on the farm, in the city or out camping. In the second class, children learn
common verbs and practice saying whole sentences in Spanish.

KNOW SOME SPANISH CLASSES

These classes are slightly more advanced, and assume that the students have had some prior
experience with the Spanish language.

LISTENING AND REPEATING

The children will listen to new words and phrases. The words and phrases will be repeated several
times. The children will then be able to repeat the new words and phrases modeling the instructor’s
pronunciation. Many of the activities will encourage the children to speak out loud.

CULTURAL AWARENESS

The children will also get to see and hold toys, musical instruments, and other objects of art from the
Spanish culture. They will also learn Spanish folk songs.
